The 2oz Silver Griffin of Edward (2017) is the first release in The Royal Mint’s highly acclaimed Queen’s Beasts series. Inspired by centuries of royal heraldry, the Griffin symbolises courage, protection, and strength — a mythical creature with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle.
This striking design is derived from the ten heraldic statues that stood guard at the coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. The reverse features the powerful Griffin holding a shield bearing the royal badge of Edward III, while the obverse displays the official effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, confirming its status as legal tender.
